Description

Utilising a decorative Japanese stitching method called sashiko, traditionally used to patch and reinforce worn work clothes and domestic textiles, we will repair and beautify your clothing’s threadbare spots, holes and rips.

This class is suitable for both beginners and more experienced sewers. Men are encouraged to attend! Our small class numbers allow your teacher Gaye to give each student lots of personalised attention.

We will provide: Pins, darning needles, sashiko thread, scissors, and pre-loved fabrics.

Gaye Naismith, founder and director of The Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling has been an avid sewer for over 35 years. She possesses extensive knowledge of machine and hand stitching techniques, garment construction following sewing patterns, fitting and professional finishing.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds if the class is cancelled.

If you are unable to attend your workshop, please let us know within 4 days of your workshop and we will give you a credit note to be used at a later date, or transfers are available upon request. No credit notes will be issued for cancellations when less than 4 working days' notice is given.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

The Guild of Objects have put together an action plan to mitigate the risks from coronavirus (Covid-19).

The Guild of Objects acknowledge the health risks of people gathering together but sees events such as workshops are a vital part of our community and can continue to be a place of safety and enjoyment if everyone plays their part.

The objective of the Guild is to support Artists, Makers and Craftspeople and as such our workshops provide financial support for the artists who work with us.

At all our upcoming events we will be putting in place additional hygiene measures in order to help minimise the possibility of contamination. This will include hand washing facilities and an increase in the frequency of cleaning of shared spaces.

We have limited the number of participants at each workshop to 6 as this will ensure that we can maintain the recommended social distance between participants.

If you are ill or have been placed into home isolation the Guild will allow you to transfer into a later workshop or if you give us 48 hours’ notice we will provide a refund.

For all clients whom we are currently mentoring, we will continue to work with you.  If, however you are unwell or have been placed in home isolation then we will look to using   Zoom as a means of continuing your mentoring.

While we have put hygiene measures and increased our efforts to minimise contamination, attendance at our workshops is at your own risk.

We value your continued support in helping keep the Guild going during these difficult times.

Please remember that our online store remains open and will work tirelessly to ensure that there are no delays in dispatching your orders.

We will continue to update and change our policy as more information is known. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Take care everyone, these are tough times for all of us and we hope that if we all work together, we can minimise the impact of all.
